NOLA

A few weeks back hubby and I got to go away, just the two of us!! It had been a few years since we were able to do such a thing, and boy did we enjoy it.  A company Joe works with flew us out to New Orleans for their annual conference.  We got to stay at this fancy hotel right in the French Quarter.

Pretty much as soon as we got there, we hit up Bourbon Street.  Disclaimer: If you take Bonine or Dramamine, I highly recommend not getting a Hurricane Drink.  I don’t do well on planes or with motion sickness in general, so I popped a Dramamine.  Oops.  I then didn’t really eat a whole lot because we traveled all day.  While I did chug a bunch of water, drinking this extra sugary beverage was not the best idea.  It was all fun in games until I came to a screeching halt! I survived, but didn’t enjoy Louisiana raw oysters….dem roast beef po boys though—mmm!

I felt much better after sleeping and the next morning we had breakfast at some funky little joint.  The french toast was to die for and of course I #putaneggonit

We went looking for my lifeline aka Starbucks, and stumbled onto the Mississippi River.  Haha typing that out reminds me of when my grandma used to make me spell it for her!

After our humbling experience at the Boone Hall Plantation last year, we definitely took note of the history here in New Orleans.

When we took a mini carriage ride/tour through the French Quarter, he shared with us the layouts of the homes.  There was usually a kitchen on the bottom, servants quarters above, small courtyard in between (to be like Versailles) and the owner’s home to the side or front?   Well, one night we were at a jazz bar and I went out back to use the bathroom, which I had to walk through a mini courtyard and when I opened the door to the ladies room this is what I saw!  How crazy, cool, weird and amazing was this?  The old ‘kitchen’ fireplace was still in tact.  Sure enough, there were a bunch of rooms above, which Joe and I thought gosh how hot it must have gotten in the servants areas!  I just loved seeing history like this.

On Tuesday we did a Food Tour with the whole group!  It was so cool.   I made sure to chug my water after my hurricane escapade the night before.

While we didn’t care for the raw oysters, these little guys were quite tasty!  Charbroiled, butter, lemon, wine, parm cheese & breadcrumbs–can’t go wrong there!!

Roast Beef Po’Boy.  So. Freaking. Good.  The French bread makes it!

We relaxed outside while waiting for the next round.

Fried Gator Bites!  It truly tasted just like chicken.  I’m wondering if this Remoulade sauce would taste like what we enjoyed down there.  I’ll have to ask my sister-in-law as she is from NOLA!

These shrimp were so tasty! I love dipping the bread in too…

Then as a dessert, we enjoyed Bread Pudding, which apparently you use the leftover French bread from the Po boys to make it.  I’ll need to find a recipe for this too! Any suggestions??

The owner of the company insisted we visit the Oldest Bar in America, Lafittes Blacksmith Shopso we basically had a giant happy hour here!

Wednesday was Joe’s 42nd birthday!! It was also the day where he had to speak on the panel.  Now, I don’t have to attend, but honestly I truly enjoy the keynote speaker and of course, I love supporting my husband.  I take credit in some of his success; he would not be able to get up and do all that he does, if I did not work 100% beside him doing all that I do.  We are a great team and if I can handle the behind the scenes stuff, then he can focus on his career.  Don’t get me wrong, I do work with our business too, but the main breadwinner is Joe.  Plus, I love getting all dolled up!

He actually won an award, I was so proud of him! He hates the extra attention, but he deserves all the applause.

Joe’s 42nd birthday, NOLA at a conference.

That evening we met for cocktails in hotel lounge and before we left for dinner, we stopped to admire my favorite –white roses!

The company pulled out all of the stops for their 20th Anniversary dinner.  We enjoyed French 75s at Arnauds as well as a spectacular dinner and conversations.

Our random table of new friends.  I was seated next to a Canadian foodie, but he’s not pictured.  We were going on and on about all the foods, drinks…he was a trip!

He was the one who ordered some fancy liquor and we toast to Joe, the company, life.

After celebrating into the night,  Joe had to wrap up the conference and by noon he was able to go grab lunch with me and see more.

That shrimp again!

This guy did me in, and I honestly think I’m still feeling its effects!!  Good old Buffalo sauce slathered on a fried oystery po boy.  #worthit

The one big #BUST of the trip was that for Joe’s birthday, I gifted him a really awesome racing experience, where he was to drive a Lambo around the NOLA race track.  Unfortunately, though it had not rained in 6 FREAKING WEEKS, it poured as we made our way 30 minutes there…thus resulting in no driving the Lambo.  I was crushed, pretty much in tears, and he was sad but not nearly as I!  I swear there will be a next time, maybe then my dad could drive and Bradley could watch.  Ugh, it totally sucked though, how cool would that have been??  He did sit and start it though… #lame.

We wandered around a little and I found William Faulkner’s house.  So cool!

We stuffed our faces, yet again with some po’boys.

One of my breakfasts was super yummy!  Loved this NOLA version of eggs benny…sweet potatoes yum!

We were at Café Beignet but didn’t try any.  #fail We did enjoy the view, live jazz music and some drinks…

Random old bar…

After our carriage ride/tour, we had to make sure we went back to the Oldest Bar in America for an authentic Hurricane.  According to our guide, he said these are the best on Bourbon St.  They use real juice, not a powder, so you don’t get all that nasty sugary taste/flavor and don’t feel sick afterwards!  It straight up tasted like juice, and I could see how very dangerous these could be!!

I was trying to have Joe take a photo of me in front of the bar/sign…this will do though! Haha.  It sums up the end of our getaway quite well:  Messy hair, crumbled red bull can/garbage…oh, Bourbon Street!

We attempted to rally that last night, but I could barely do dinner, I was beat.  My reflux/body had enough of the booze, the fried foods and all the things, so while I did enjoy a Muffalatta pizza, we were back in the hotel quite early.  I just couldn’t get into the whole drunken frat boy/puking scene happening on Bourbon.  BTW these shoes I bought specifically for NOLA and they did not disappoint! $20 and they were comfy, covered my toes from any–errr…grossness on Bourbon– and they seriously went with everything!

#ad

While we had so much fun and were so grateful for this experience, by Friday night/Saturday I was really missing my babies! We love traveling and it’s something that I want to do more of in years to come.  Rumor has it next year’s conference will be in Miami.  I haven’t been to South Beach since I was 20! Oh, I better prepare better for next time around!

Weekend Review!

Where does the weekend go?!  I feel like it was a great mix of work and fun and even a little rest!

Friday we had a list of things Real Estate to do.  I was not feeling my best, so I made the extra effort to look cute, hoping it’d help me feel better.  Leggings with OTK boots at least look a little more put together, with little to no effort!  This top from Saint James Boutique was super comfy too!

Bradley, Joe and I went to check on some properties and had lunch downtown.

Saturday I hired a babysitter and was able to sneak out and get some girl time in with my friend Kristin!  She hit up her spin class and I managed to get my 20 minutes in at the gym.  We fueled up with these delicious Super Bowl (Chia pudding) dishes.  I am totally recreating this again!

Saturday night I had no desire to cook, but I pulled out this cookbook my stepmom got me and had all the ingredients.

It was pretty good!!

Sunday I got up and got my steps in at the gym nice and early so that I could spend the day with the fam!  She wanted a picture with me.

We went over to grab our lockbox at one of our properties we ‘sold’ and Brooke was so proud of herself for reading this sign.

After that we had lunch at our favorite place, The Revelry.  I snapped this cute photo of my loves!  They all enjoyed chicken and waffles.  Mama enjoyed a Wedge Salad, since the disco is coming up haha!

The bartenders always mix a mocktail up for the kiddos and they loved them.

Sunday night I felt like something light and fluffy, so I jut did baked Cod with lemon, butter, wine and white Jasmine rice.  I added some Brussels Sprouts for good measure.

Sunday night we were in bed quite early so I decided to download some Chic Lit to help me fall asleep.  I love reading and am immersed in several Real Estate books and am super excited for Rachel Hollis’ Girl Stop Apologizing to come out tomorrow!   I scooped up this book per Emily’s reads.   She is inspiring as she read over 100 books last year!

And this?  All the feels.  So very, very true.

How was your weekend?!

Fashion (& Beauty) Friday

We made it to the end of the week, whoop!
My crew and I stepped out for lunch and did some running around.  It was the perfect 75 degree day, blue skies, sunny with a slight breeze.  We are cherishing our “family of 4 Fridays” as when school starts up, our eldest will be going all day!

I kept today’s look super simple–Express top, a strappy bralette & cut off shorts.

Stella & Dot Accessories:

  • Love necklace ($24!)
  • Sparkle Studs ($19)

img_7757

For makeup, I have been all about Younique lately! {products used below}

  • Palette 1
  • Blush Stunning
  • Brozer sunset
  • Epic Mascara (only 2 coats)
  • Proper (brown) eye liner
  • Tinted Lip Bon Bon: Vanilla Milkshake
  • Lip Pencil in pudent
  • Liquid Lipstick: Sublime

For my actual skin care, I’m obsessed with Ever.  I switched from the regular daily moisturizer to the tinted and amazing is an understatement!  I don’t feel like I’m wearing any makeup and yet it gives off a subtle tint/glow.  I wear medium in the Summer.  I do this daily and no longer use my Bare Minerals tinted coverage any more.  For date nights, I use another foundation; I’ll share that separately.

For my book club/wine night, I got to dress up a little more!

Top: Banana Republic

Pants: Express

Bag: LV Neverfull GM

Shoes: Vince Camuto

Earrings: Gita Tassels, Stella & Dot

For makeup, I am loving this fab new lip combo!! (I have a serious lipstick, lipgloss, lip whatever obsession. I am a total lip-junkie and I totally admit it.)

The makeup gurus are swearing by using Prim (which is technically an eye liner) for a lip liner & then go over it will this bomb lip plumper gloss in Shandelle.

You can make it darker, if you apply more liner, but I started lightly for the first go around!

This is also a HUGE favorite of mine! Rose Water  It was on backorder and I was overly excited when it finally came!  It’s a toner and at my last facial, the girl told me I should really be using one twice a day since I do have bigger pores.  Not to mention, I feel super fancy spraying my face with it and it smells SO flipping good!! (Not like fake roses like other cheaper products, which I’ve tried but this is worth every penny!)

The other Friday I rocked my “Self Made” shirt (we still have the little girl version available!), new gold Essential hoops and are new Rhett necklace.  Note my killer selfie skills, (dog bowl, chair placement)

I have been back on the arm party bandwagon again!!

Intention bracelets, Renegade cluster bracelet and the Ansley cuff all S&D of course!

How true is this?!

Have a fabulous weekend friends!

Fashion Friday: Color Pop

TGIF!!

It’s been a fun month celebrating Summer and my 37th birthday.  We love Summer so much and really  make great efforts to get out on as many date nights as possible.  We know all too well that pretty soon the snow will be flying and we’ll be freezing, trying to stay warm cuddled up by the fire!

For now?  We go out on the town!

I wanted to share some of my favorite looks lately.

Stella & Dot’s Fall collection came out and it’s to die for!  The Fall launch has always been my favorite (by far!) and this did not disappoint.

The Pegasus Earrings are just as gorgeous as they seem!  They are not heavy at all.

Lips- Lipsense

Makeup– Younique

Dress- Express

Where are my hoop girls at?!  Big hoops are IN and these are the same material as our hammered wired hoops, so we are talking super lightweight and add that perfect glam.  I’ll quote my girlfriend Elizabeth, she says they are “life changing.”  I would have to agree!  I ordered them in both gold and silver, they are that good.

One of our little nights out I opted for an LBD. This one is from Venus.com (it’s on sale for only $29.99!!)   These shoes are from Guess by Marciano and they’re not that bad!  (Similar here)

For my birthday date night with hubby I played around with our new Color Pop Earrings.  These are SO fun you guys!!  For $69 you get a million looks!! They are so lightweight, genuine leather and I adore the front facing hoop.  We have a similar pair for silver gals too.

I added the celestial choker in gold & the renegade cluster bracelet in gold to finish my look.

Makeup: Younique!—It’s the best.  I’m wearing the lip pencil in pouty and the liquid Stellar.  Blush, bronzer, everything Younique!

I chose a ruby red dress since that’s my birthstone and I know my hubby loves me in red.

I chose to rock the metallic gold long ones because my shoes had gold buckles and I thought they looked pretty with my dress.

See how creative you can get with these earrings?img_7093.jpgimg_7092

I have a feeling you’ll be seeing a lot of stripes with pops of color this Fall.

img_7095img_7094.jpg

THIS LOOK–Keeps popping up in my feed, so I have no clue what designer it is, but it gives me life!! I will be recreating this look over and over again once the temps start to cool.

Denim.

White top.

Gold jewels.

Saddle brown bag.

Shades.

Beach waves.

Looking for a new saddle colored purse?  Meet the Kensington Tote!  Just in time for Fall, it launched in a stunning black color earlier in the year, but this gals is perfection.

We also have some gorgeous tops, this camo sweatshirt and our new Work Hard Play Hard bag.  (zippers are in and this comes in black too!)

Shop this ENTIRE look on my e-boutique~

As a busy mama, I love the small daily essentials like the new LOVE necklace.  Gold or silver and just $24!!

How pretty is the new Mae necklace?  Custom handmade and woven beads.  It took a long time make and it shows!

Our fearless leader Jessica Herrin posted this gem on Instagram the other day.  Her arm party was way bigger than her coffee!

And for the gym run, this amazing Crush it Tote is still one of my favorites!

I have a mystery hostess show running, so some lucky lady will win the rewards from the show!! You can also score any of these gems half off when you spend $50.

I just love all of the new styles and am having so much sprucing up all of my old outfits with some fun accessories!  If you’ve got your eye on something and your wishlist is bigger than your budget, let’s chat about hosting an online style sesh!

Fashion Friday: February Looks

Happy Friday!

We are totally snowed in–no school, no hair appointment, no traveling of any kind! I’m okay with that, and may have asked the universe to slow me down, so thank you mother nature!

I get asked where I like to shop, so I have included some of my February looks and similar styles for you to view.

I have been on a curling kick lately.  My hair is super thick and really a lot of work, so I try to do it up when I can, but it does take time.  I use my older Chi straightener and curl away from my face.  It kind of creates this big curl, semi-Farrah Fawcett look and I’m obsessed.  I have one like this.
