Weekend Review

Friday was full of fun for our family!

Joe was able to take Bradley on his field trip to a local Maple Syrup farm.  They loved it!

I was able to set up and serve The Royal Tea for Brooke’s Kindergarten class. It was adorable!  We sent in some Lorna Dunes, jam and apple juice while the kids got to dress up, dance and enjoy their tea time!

She will not take a serious shot for me ever!! (Just like her Daddy!)

She insisted on wearing one of my old dance costumes (I think I was 15 when I wore it?!)

She begged me to bring in this tea pot from home to serve with.

It then prompted me to serve myself some tea on Saturday.  Do you ever have those days where you’re under the weather, trying to still do all the things and your body is like, HELLO? Are you listening?  No?  Ok, well I’m gonna shut ya down right now.

That’s basically what happened to me.  I pretty much laid in my bed all day, and other than feeding the kids, letting the dogs out, doing the bare minimum — dishes/laundry– I did shower, but I also napped.  It was glorious.  I realized that I never do this for myself.  I finished 2 books that day, both I had started previously.

I’m very much a go go go type of person, and I married one as well, so to allow ourselves to rest, really isn’t an option.  Then we get sick.  So as much as I wanted to go to the gym and do “all the things,” I didn’t.  I did what I felt that was best for me and I honestly enjoyed every second. I felt bad as we had a sitter lined up and dinner plans with friends, but there will be more times ahead.  Health should always come first.

In the teapot: English Breakfast, soy milk and dang these Advo Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough bars are SO GOOD!! You can grab them here.

I finished my home girl’s book and it was a good one!! I gotta say I thought the beginning was one FIRE.  I definitely took a lot of nuggets… and the hardest (and most fitting timing wise) chapter was Asking For Help.  Successful people ask for help.  They DON’T do it all by themselves.  So much happens behind the scenes, and I know both Joe and I need to get better about delegating some responsibilities so we can do a better job at what we are good at and what we want to do.  #truthbombs left and right!! Thanks again Rach!

This little gem—HOLY smokes.  If you think you’re not in sales, you’re wrong.  You sell yourself to your kids, your employer, your friends, or maybe you do actually sling houses, bracelets, leggings, hair products, lip gloss…  Either way, this is a book that I can’t stop thinking about and WHOA.  I need to go back and re-read some more…  I can’t even begin to tell you how many quotes I have running through my mind from this one.

Next up book wise, will be this thriller.  I snagged a copy from the library–yay!  It’s for our book club and I have to have it read in a little under 2 weeks. I got dis!

Sunday I snuck out for a bit of alone time, bumped some music and basked in the 30 degree sun.  I enjoyed my Matcha Latté— is it just me or do they make them PERFECT sometimes and just ehhhh ok, others?  This one was kissed by unicorns.

After my morning peaceful alone time, Joe and I worked quite a bit on our biz.  We’ve always bought houses (obvs!) But we haven’t really put much effort into marketing.  We’ve decided to change it up a bit and we are now,

How adorably perfect is this logo?! My girl Rachel who runs Simply Mama Boutique on Etsy HOOKED me up.  She makes custom logos and she kills it!! We will be adding to our social media sites and promoting more, so that we can help as many people as possible.  Sometimes folks end up in sticky situations where they’re accidental landlords or inherited a home, or simply want to walk away without putting the house on the market.  We can help!  We’ve met so many amazing people and I can’t wait to see how many more people we can help this year.

Rach also made me this bomb hat— is it not perfection?!  Know someone who wants to sell a home in the 585? Refer them to me!  (we always pay you as a thank you!!)

And in other news, the condo in Brockport is available—SUMMER is coming and this could be enjoyed by you (or someone you know daily!!)

Some #mondaymotivation

Peace and love y’all!! Happy Monday.

What I ate Wednesday

I love being in the kitchen!! I don’t love dishes (bleh!) but I do have fun cooking, prepping, baking, and creating meals…and I love food.  I will never be a size 2 because I just love to eat!  I have been playing around with my meals, trying to figure out how food works with my body and what gives me the most energy.  I live by 80/20, and I will admit I feel like sometimes it’s more 60/40, so I need to be a little better about that!

I find it fascinating when others share their meals and food ideas, so I thought maybe someone would like to see mine! Here’s what a typical ‘healthy’ day of eating looks like for me!

Breakfast:

On a typical day I start with eggs.  If it’s a great day, I’ll have some avocado on hand for my ezekial toast! I am obsessed with TJ Everything but the bagel seasoning.  Two eggs over easy and some spinach and a slice of turkey bacon. Delish!  I find it beneficial to fill up on a hearty meal and I’m usually starving.

After I eat, I usually whip up some of this Beachbody preworkout.  I can’t drink coffee because of my reflux, but this green tea based caffeine drink gives me all the boost I need to take on the world–err–day.  Hubby gifted me this adorable pink Yeti and it’s my designated mom go go juice cup. I throw 2 ice cubes, fill with water and a heaping scoop of this liquid gold! I usually drink it between 8:30 and 9:00 am and it stays ice cold even longer if need be.

Post Workout:

I switched up my post workout shake back to an oldie but goodie, Muscle Gain.  I do love Shakeo but I don’t think it was the best right after I worked out.  I will use it as a meal replacement if needed.

Lunch

Lots of water and for lunch I try to keep carbs to a minimum.  Spinach salad, goat cheese, tomatoes, Italian dressing.  I also had some left over ground venison meat which had some seasoning in it.

Snack:

I usually get hungry again around 3/4 pm so I try to do a fruit and a fat.

Dinner:

For dinner this is on rotation every other week.  In the winter when it’s hard to grill, I use my crockpot a ton! Everyone loves a whole chicken, it falls right off the bone and there’s usually leftovers. I serve it with pasta or rice for Joe and the kids, and here I just used cauliflower rice.  I don’t love it but mixed with the carrots (honey, lemon, butter & basil) it was a yummy bowl!

After dinner (we usually eat no later than 7, usually earlier) I am DONE eating for the evening.  I am honestly pretty full and maybe will have some herbal tea, once in awhile I’ll have dessert but I try to not indulge nightly.  I will fast from dinner until breakfast–which is usually 8:15/8:30 for me, so I’d say on average it’s a 14 hour fast. I find that I sleep better when my body is not digesting foods late night!

10 Day Cleanse

It was that time again! I have really honed into what my body needs, how to fuel it properly, what I can and should not eat…but I am human!  Enter: Advocare’s 10 Day Cleanse.  I started my AdvoCare journey back in the Summer of 2013.  I could not lose those extra 25 pounds from having my first baby and everything I was trying did not seem to help.

I aim to do one cleanse every season (90 days). The last one I did was in January.

I did the 24 Day challenge and even that first cleanse I felt so amazing!  It was the perfect match for my personality, and still is.  I love goals and simplified eating.  I realized the more ‘real food’ I ate, the better that I felt.   Throughout the last 5 years I’ve tweaked my diet slightly but over all, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!

Day 1: I was at a number I hadn’t seen in a very long time.  Even around Christmas I don’t think I broke into 140’s! Either way, between not putting myself first, eating a ton of yummy food and not working out consistently, the pounds added up.  I’m not too hung up on numbers, but I was super sad that my clothes weren’t fitting.  It was time.

I eat the same foods pretty much daily, and I try my hardest to eat 5-6 small meals.

Lean protein

Greens/veggies

Comlex carb

Fats

I treat myself to a protein shake after workouts.  I love adding 4 ice cubes, 12 oz of unsweetened cashew milk, 1/2 of a banana and a scoop of natural peanut butter. Delish!

Wraps are super easy and a great way to fill up.

I live by these little almond butter packets!

I treated myself to some sashimi for dinner one night.

If I didn’t make it to the gym, then I tried so hard to get in an at home workout!

More meal ideas…

One of my friends taught me awhile back that we should eat like a King for breakfast–the most filling meal of the day!  Break that fast with healthy foods.

Water is HUGE. I was feeling a bit of bloat and knew I had to start CHUGGING water.  You need to drink 1/2 your body weight in ounces of water to keep those toxins out!

Left over smoked chicken wings.  They taste much better with blue cheese, but I behaved! Avocado is a cleanse life saver too.

I did ‘cheat’ on Father’s Day and I did not feel bad about it.  I wanted to enjoy some yummy lobster pasta and a little bubbly with my husband.  I did not feel my best the next day, so all the more power to not over indulge like that!

Once again, I re-learned how great it felt to be full of energy and fill my body with real food that nourishes my mind, soul and tummy.

I had patience, even during a STRESSFUL week of my husband working the tent sale, my dad having major surgery and me solo parenting for the whole time.
My shorts fit, my tummy is tighter and the number on the scale went from 141 to 134.

WINNING!!

I don’t share to boast, I share to encourage.  Anything and everything is possible.  We are all a work in progress and while I may never have a rock hard, 6 pack abdomen, I have a healthy body that is working at maximum speed because I’m doing the right things at the very least, 80% of the time.

80/20 is SO helpful for me.

Eat clean, real, whole foods 80% of the week and allow 20% to be maybe not the cleanest. This means enjoy the ice cream cone with the kiddos, or the glass of wine, but don’t do it every day.

Workouts

I am admittedly terrible at sticking to a workout routine.  I love schedules, and yet I can’t seem to follow them!! Between pre-k, appointments, sicknesses, weather, it’s impossible for me to stick to one thing.  I am probably way harder on myself than I should be, but I really feel like a better human being when I sweat on a regular basis!

I FEEL a million times better when I workout and I also eat a lot better too.  My goal is to workout 5x a week.  If I end up moving more than that, great!

I did invest in a membership to the YMCA.  I think it has done wonders for the kids to get out, play with other kids, sweat it out in the “Mystery Cavern” and for Bradley to be around other grown ups.

It’s also incredibly nice to have an hour or so to myself where I can blast gangster rap, listen to a podcast or just zone out to You Tube.

What if I don’t want to work out?

Just go walk on the treadmill.  If you’re going to watch a show, then why not burn a few calories by walking?  Even 30 minutes of walking will probably make you sweat a little, and you may be inclined to walk more.

I don’t have time.

None of us do.  We just have to make the time. If it’s 5 minutes here, or 15 minutes there, it all adds up.  Start small and increase as you become stronger.

Check out this article via Prevention magazine; it talks about the benefits of simply walking! Walking Benefits

I have zero motivation.

I will totally admit when I have an event to attend, a vacation to go away for, or Summer…I am certainly way more motivated than in the dead of Winter (now) when we are covered in layers upon layers and leggings. Oh those damn leggings with the elastic waist! It’s great until you try to zip up a pair of your favorite jeans…

You can also make your friends hold you accountable; it’s much easier now with the fitbits and Apple watches.  Join an actually accountability group, hire a coach or purchase from a Beachbody or AdvoCare coach.  These things work people! Only if you want them to of course.

Don’t beat yourself up if you don’t workout.

I need this one right now.  It’s been over a week since I went to the gym.  On Saturday I did a 20 minute yoga flow and truly felt my shoulders burning, but I haven’t done much else other than walk the dog a bit.

Find a workout you LOVE.

For me it’s a mix. If I could do Zumba every day, I probably would, but that’s not in the cards for me!  I try to go every Tuesday at the Y.  Sometimes I miss it, but man when I get my dancing in for the week, I am a happy happy girl!

I try to workout based on my mood. Some days I really want to lift weights, other days I’m really into yoga. There are even some days I just want to walk with the kids outside or run around at the playground. At the end of the day, and even at the end of the week I think it’s important to look back and just see that we have exercised in some sort of capacity.

Get Outside.

I hear ya sister, it’s cold and probably not sunny all of the time.  I am such a hermit when the cold weather hits, but when it’s at least 45 and sunny? I really try to make an effort.  I do attempt to play in the snow with the kids too, but I’ll be honest I am more beach bunny than snow bunny.  My dog sure doesn’t mind a little cold, so on Sundays if it’s not too bad out I’ll take her for a nice long walk.

Try a pre-workout drink.

I am obsessed with pre-workout. I love both Beachbody and Advocare’s.  I find the energy uplifting without a crash and it DOESN’T bother my belly! Yay! I will even drink this stuff if I need a kick in the pants and need to function…I can’t drink coffee, and green tea only does so much for me.  This is made with a green tea leaf extract and I think it’s mixed with a magical potion to create a perfect balance of ‘get-er-done’ and zen.  Odd, I know. Trust me on it though!! Spark is too rough on me and I just love the taste of this.  I add one ice cube and sip that baby like it’s my morning cocktail of energy.  {You can get your pre-workout here.}

Take photos.

I can’t tell you how many times I will sit there feeling sorry for myself and I don’t wanna workout bla bla bla, and then I’ll scroll through some of my old insta-story photos and instantly become motivated. I didn’t want to workout then either most likely, but I did it, I felt good and I know that I can do it again. I also think it inspires other people, which I always enjoy doing too.  It’s also nice to see progress happening, whether it’s a flatter tummy, more defined arms or clothing fitting a little nicer. With all of our social media options, find a place to hold yourself accountable and share your photos. Or just take them and store them in your phone.

Reward yourself.

I had been dying for a pair of LuLulemon yoga pants for quite sometime. I vowed that once I dropped my baby weight (the second time around) and stayed at a consistent size/weight I would treat myself to a pair.  Warning: They’re addictive! Hands down, these are THE BEST and most comfortable pair of pants. I could live in them daily.   Maybe it’s a spa day, a manicure, a new pair of sneakers….dangle some sort of carrot in front of your face, so that you stay motivated to achieve your goals.

(You can find them here.)

Motivation doesn’t last.  It ebbs and flows, some days I am ready to kill it and others I want to pull the covers over my head and stay there all day.  What works best for me is to remind myself that my overall health is what’s important.  Yes, I want to feel and look good but ultimately I tell myself I have this one body and I must take really good care of it.  We are not meant to be sitting all day; we need movement and to feel the oxygen going in and out of our lungs.  We have to push ourselves and also enjoy exercise.

What are your tips for staying active?  Do you have a favorite workout?

10 Day Cleanse

It’s that time again!! You know, when your jeans are just a tad too tight to feel comfortable in.  The extra glass of wine never hurt anyone. Those couple of bites of birthday cake, which turn into several pieces.  Snacking off the kids’ plates and just not really putting forth any effort with your diet. Guilty as charged!

I personally LOVE the AdvoCare 10 day cleanse.  I cannot do Spark due to my reflux (I can’t drink coffee or eat garlic, fried foods, too many starches, sugars, etc without feeling the effects.) What I can do instead of Spark is Pre-Workout. It tastes just like pink lemonade and it doesn’t have any sucralose as it’s sweetened with Stevia.

I try to do a cleanse every season (ever 90 days) and for me it’s more of a re-set of my system. I know what works. I know what I need to eat to feel and look my best. But it’s soooo easy not to…and to just be meh. Well, I’m over that and I’ve used every excuse in the book to put my cleanse off, so today is the day!

I mentally prepared myself yesterday, as I enjoyed some delicious Cabernet and made my beautiful family some ground turkey lasagna. Totally worth it and everyone enjoyed! So what will I not eat the next 10 days? Processed sugars, starchy white carbs, dairy, wine, and of course my beloved green tea lattes are off limits.  Last time I cleansed and was craving a sugar filled latte, I stopped at the local Yoga studio and grabbed a hot freshly steamed apple juice.  Totally curbed the craving!

Side note, I do have a schedule cheat night for our date night this weekend! I will roll with the punches, as we have not had much Jenn and Joe time with holidays and kids’ birthdays, plus bad weather.

What can I eat? ANYTHING in the fruit and vegetable groups.  I need to stock up for some more fresh goodness at the store!

Lean proteins are key–I doubt I’ll eat much steak and if I do, I make sure it’s 90% lean or like a filet mignon. Tons of fish and chicken for sure!  Beans are cheap and easy, and if I’m feeling hungry, I’ll toss some in with whatever I’m eating to keep me full.  You should NOT be hungry while cleansing!

Since this is not my first rodeo, I know I’ll have to fill up water bottles and leave them everywhere. I find it tricky to drink enough water when the weather is cold, but I will get it done!  I sometimes drink caffeine free herbal teas to help get more water in when I’m freezing. Hopefully I can drink enough and flush this fat away!

I’m quite annoyed with myself for not sticking with a consistent gym routine.  Sickness, weather, you name it will cause me not to workout and that’s kinda lame. I can totally work out from home, if need be…so my goal is to sweat 5 times a week. I consider Sunday a win, since I walked Holly for 45 minutes and then had an epic dance party with the kids after dinner. I sweat, so that counts in my book!

I’ll try to keep track of my food on my insta-story as that seems to keep me motivated and held accountable. I’ll probably eat the same thing a lot (for time sake) but I also hope to keep up with it longer than just 10 days.  I hate reaching for a man made protein bar and shake when I know I should be eating real whole foods.  When I’m not cleansing, I aim for 80/20–again, that’s 80% clean eating and 20% ehhh not so clean.

You’ll see the following foods throughout the week:

  • Eggs
  • Spinach
  • Whole wheat toast
  • Oatmeal
  • Fruit
  • Salads
  • Roasted veggies
  • Sweet potatoes
  • Hummus
  • Corn tortillas
  • Ground turkey
  • Venison
  • Chicken breasts
  • Tuna
  • Nuts
  • Dried cranberry
  • Natural Peanut Butter
  • Almond Butter
  • Fish (Sushi too, just no rice and very little low sodium soy sauce)

I have also started doing some research on intermittent fasting.  I don’t know if I truly could go longer than 14 hours, but I may try! I find that when I cut myself off after dinner (6/7pm) I sleep better and feel better in the mornings. I have become quite in tune with my body and since my reflux acts up, I think eating a final meal around then gives my body plenty of time to digest before I go to sleep.  Sleep is SO important–we should not be having our bodies digesting while we’re healing and resting up for the next day.

Do you have any insight with intermittent fasting? I hear that it’s something you should gradually work up to, and I just don’t know how I feel about not eating for like 24 hours. I get pretty cranky if I don’t eat every 3 hours as it is, so I dunno…if it works for some people that’s great, but I am unsure I could get too many hours while breaking my fast.  When I did a strict juice cleanse for 3 days, by the end of the 3rd day I had to eat lettuce with lemon juice…I was so hungry!

Stay tuned and keep an eye on my instagram for updates.
